Fault Scarp

Just south of the canyon mouth is a good exposure of the Wasatch Fault scarp in the Great Blue Limestone. The fault dips to the west at about 40ยบ. Tool marks are visible on the rocks giving evidence of multiple earthquake events. About one mile to the south of this picture is the best exposure of the fault near the Seven Peaks water park. Driving up the road to Rock Canyon (2320 N.) there is a distinct drop in the fence line on the north side of the road. This is the Wasatch Fault. This scarp was created the last time the fault had a major rupture about 400 years ago.

Standing right on the fault zone looking north toward Mt. Timpanogas. About 3 meters of offset occurred during this event.
