Modern Analogue

Tintic Beach.jpeg

This beach in the Bahamas is similar to what Utah would have looked like during the Cambrian Period. A shallow sea with a quartz sand beach would have extended the entire length of Utah and into Arizona. The land plants in the background would not have been present during the Cambrian. They first appear in the rock record 200 million years later during the Devonian Period. (Photo by Ken Hamblin)
