Rock Canyon Fold

rock_c1.jpeg

Looking to the north from the gate near the mouth of Rock Canyon you can see highly folded and fractured layers of the Tintic Quartzite that resulted from the Sevier mountain building event during the Cretaceous Period. Another compressional structure about 100 meters down the canyon from this spot is a section of the Mineral Fork Tillite that has been forced up into the Tintic Quartzite by reverse faults. The fold can be seen well a few hundred meters above the gate along the path. (photo by Bill Harris)
