Dr. Blakey's reconstruction of the western U.S. 90 million years ago during the Cretaceous Period. Plate convergence from the west is creating folds and thrust faults across Nevada and western Utah. Streams from the new mountains deposit sediments into a shallow interior sea that washes over eastern Utah. This is the time when large land animals, such as dinosaurs, roamed the shores and lowlands of eastern and central Utah.
